A look into our History
Haddon Press was
established in 1944 when our grandfather Hurbert purchased Simpson and Kerr, located at King St. and John St. Bringing in his twin brother
Ernie as a partner, they changed the name to Haddon Press. Haddon was chosen because it was the street name in North Toronto on
which they lived side-by-side, and where our family grew up.
In
those days, wood and lead hand-set type was one of the best ways of
producing jobs. Run on hand-fed and automatic letter presses, it was a
much slower and more labour intensive process. Haddon Press was one of
the first in the city to use thermo-engraving (raised printing), the
art of raising ink using a resin and heat, which we still provide.
In
1953 after our grandfather’s untimely passing, David Sr., our father,
took over the business. With his retirement in 1992, sons David (Jr.),
Stephen and Peter took over the operation of the company with the same high level of
quality and personal service that has been driving it since its
inception.
Haddon Press
has established itself as a premier printing company for all types of
material with competitive pricing. We stand behind our work and strive
to ensure our clients’ finished products are what they expect.
